About Impactive

Impactive, backed by YCombinator and Higher Ground Labs, was founded in 2017 as a get-out-the-vote tool for Democrats. The Impactive product has since expanded to become a full-service platform allowing any campaign or cause to engage in distributed organizing.

In the 2018 midterms, volunteers contacted over 1 million voters using Impactive. In 2020, we scaled significantly to meet the demand of this unprecedented election cycle. We’ve worked with over 500 clients nationwide, and volunteers have sent over 100 million text messages on behalf of Planned Parenthood, the DCCC, SEIU, Community Change, When We All Vote, Greenpeace, and campaigns up and down the ballot. Our work has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, TechCrunch, Fast Company, and many more.

In 2021, Impactive will expand its platform further into nonprofit, advocacy, and additional markets. This will be an exciting time to play a critical role in helping shape the direction for what’s coming next. We will continue to prioritize our progressive values while building a feature-rich platform that will broaden our reach across the impact space.

About the Role

As Impactive's first full-time design hire, the Lead Product Designer will be responsible for owning the creation of an engaging, intuitive, and functional product experience for Impactive administrators and volunteer users. This person will have significant ownership over the design process at Impactive, with room for significant impact and growth within the role. The Lead Product Designer will work closely with Impactive's CEO, CTO, Product Manager, and prominent clients to shape Impactive's product roadmap. This role will eventually include the opportunity to expand Impactive's design team and manage a department of designers.

  • Develop a Robust Product Design System: partner with senior leaders at Impactive to craft a feature development cycle that adheres to best practices in UX research, storyboards, process flows, sitemaps, etc.
  • Create Feature Concepts and Wireframes: bring feature ideas to life, collaborating with the product and client strategy teams to meet requirements for functionality and work new ideas into the product.
  • Design Mockups and Prototypes: transform initial sketches and wireframes into high-fidelity mockups and clickable demos using tools like Sketch, Figma, and Invision. Clearly illustrate how the product functions and what the user experience will look like upon implementation.
  • Understand Engineering Feasibility: work closely with the engineering team to ensure that designs are not overly complex from an implementation standpoint and translate easily to web and mobile styles.
  • Collaborate on Impactive Branding: work with Impactive's sales and marketing team to build a consistent and compelling brand that translates cleanly between external marketing materials and the product.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience, preferably designing software products, and a strong portfolio of design work.
  • Eagerness to take on a founding design role at Impactive with significant leadership and growth opportunities.
  • Expert in Figma, Sketch, Invision, and/or the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Empathetic to the daily rigor and short-term demands of a start-up and able to tie these to long-term, strategic initiatives.
  • Passionate about politics and activism, social impact and responsibility, and volunteering and fundraising for good causes.

We don’t expect individual candidates to have expertise across all of these areas — we’re looking for candidates that are particularly strong in a few areas, and are excited to learn in others.

We eagerly accept applicants with diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. Impactive is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate our employees’ differences, and know that differences — of all kinds — make us infinitely stronger.
